Half-An-Onion
These Terms are written to be readable, not to trap you. We've tried to write them the way we'd want our own terms written — honest about what we offer, fair about what we ask in return, and explicit about the one place where our hands are tied (Apple and Google billing).
By creating an account or using Half-An-Onion, you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the app. You must be at least 13 years of age to create an account.
You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at admin@halfanonion.app if you suspect unauthorized access. You may not share your account with others or create accounts on behalf of users under 13.
You may delete your account at any time using the Delete Everything function in Settings, or by submitting a request at halfanonion.app/contact.
The Free tier is available at no charge and is supported by banner advertisements displayed within the app. Optional rewarded video ads are available to unlock additional voice captures beyond the daily limit. The daily voice capture limit for Free tier users is 10 captures per day.
Captures cover all AI-powered actions: voice task capture, voice grocery capture, and text/paste list import (1 capture each). Photo list import costs 2 captures per photo due to additional image processing required.
Additional captures may be purchased as a one-time consumable in-app purchase: 50 captures for $1.99. Capture packs do not expire. Unused captures remain available until used. Capture packs are available to Free tier users only — Pro subscribers have unlimited captures and will not be prompted to purchase packs.
Capture packs are drawn from after your daily base captures are exhausted. Capture packs are non-refundable except as required by Apple App Store or Google Play Store policies.
The Pro tier is billed monthly at $4.99/month or annually at $49.99/year (equivalent to approximately 2 months free) and includes unlimited voice captures, no advertising, up to 8 Gardeners, village creation and administration, unlimited completed task history, and additional Pro-only features as they are released.
Billing by platform: When purchased through the Apple App Store, billing is managed entirely by Apple. When purchased through Google Play, billing is managed entirely by Google. Half an Onion LLC does not process or store your payment information for in-app purchases. When purchased through halfanonion.app, billing is processed securely by Stripe. You cannot purchase a subscription inside the app and pay via Stripe — Apple and Google require that in-app purchases use their respective payment systems.
Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
We know ADHD brains sometimes forget to cancel. If you were charged for a subscription you forgot to cancel, email us at admin@halfanonion.app within 7 days of the charge with the subject line "ADHD Refund Request." We will refund the most recent charge, no questions asked, no guilt. This is not a loophole we will close — it is a commitment we are proud to make.
Important limitation: For purchases made through the Apple App Store or Google Play, refunds are ultimately governed by Apple's and Google's refund policies, which Half an Onion LLC cannot override. We will advocate on your behalf if you contact us first, but we cannot guarantee an App Store or Google Play refund beyond their respective windows. For web subscriptions processed via Stripe, we honor the full 7-day refund commitment directly and immediately.
Life gets hard. If you need a break from billing, you may request a pause.
During any pause, your billing stops and your account reverts to Free tier access. Your tasks, grocery lists, recipes, and Gardeners remain fully intact. We will never pressure you to resume.
Share code recipients receive a 14-day free trial of the Pro tier, with up to 30 voice captures per day during the trial. Trial capture limits are intentionally set above the Free tier limit so you can genuinely experience Pro — but below unlimited so we can keep the service sustainable. One trial per account, per lifetime. We will notify you 48 hours before your trial expires. All your data is fully preserved if you return to Free tier after the trial ends.
Every user receives a unique share code visible in Settings. When you share your code and the recipient completes their free trial and starts a paid subscription, both you and the recipient benefit.
Sender rewards (paid on conversion only — not on trial activation):
Rewards are credited automatically when the referred user's first paid billing cycle completes. You can track your referral conversions and rewards earned in Settings.
Share codes expire 30 days after sharing whether used or not. Share codes may not be sold, bartered, or transferred for value. Fraudulent use of share codes — including creating multiple accounts to receive multiple trials — will result in permanent account termination and forfeiture of all accrued rewards.
A sponsored Pro access tier for SNAP/WIC recipients is planned for a future version of Half-An-Onion and is not currently available. When launched, sponsored access will be subject to separate terms communicated at that time, including identity verification requirements and meaningful activity conditions.
Half-An-Onion is a local-first app. Your tasks, grocery lists, recipes, Gardeners, and preferences are stored on your device, not on our servers. Half an Onion LLC does not hold your personal content on our infrastructure — your data remains on your device regardless of your subscription status.
The only data stored on our servers is your account login credentials (email address and authentication token) and anonymous household sync identifiers. This is deleted when you use the Delete Everything function in Settings. If you cancel or downgrade from Pro to Free, Pro-only features become unavailable. Your data is never deleted due to a tier change.
You own all content you create in Half-An-Onion — your tasks, lists, notes, and recipes are yours. By using household sync or village features, you grant other household members or village members the ability to view shared content you choose to share. You can revoke sharing at any time.
If you share recipes to a Village, you represent that you have the right to share the recipe link and that you are not violating anyone's intellectual property. Half-An-Onion is not responsible for recipe content shared by village members.
The delegation feature allows you to send tasks to Gardeners (household members or helpers) via SMS. Half an Onion LLC is not responsible for tasks that are not completed by a Gardener, for any consequences resulting from delegated tasks, or for the content of communications between users. Delegation links expire 48 hours after sending.
Price data, where shown in the app, is sourced from third-party APIs, is provided for informational purposes only, and may not reflect current in-store prices, sale prices, member-only prices, or regional variations. Half an Onion LLC makes no warranty as to the accuracy or completeness of any pricing information. Always verify prices at checkout. We are not responsible for any financial decisions made based on price information shown in the app.
Grocery cart handoff to third-party stores is a feature in development. When available, it will be subject to the terms of those retailers and disclosed in the app at that time.
Half-An-Onion is designed for users 13 and older. Users under 13 may not create accounts. Parents may add children under 13 as Gardeners on their own account without the child needing a separate account. By creating an account, you represent that you are at least 13 years of age.
You may not use Half-An-Onion to:
Half-An-Onion, The Slicer, the Half-An-Onion logo, and all associated branding are owned by Half an Onion LLC. The app's source code, design, and AI prompts are proprietary trade secrets. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the app for personal, non-commercial household purposes only.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall first be attempted to be resolved informally by emailing admin@halfanonion.app. If informal resolution fails, disputes shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Virginia. You waive any objection to jurisdiction or venue in those courts.
By using Half-An-Onion, you agree to resolve any claim against us on an individual basis and not as a plaintiff or class member in any class action or representative proceeding.
We may update these Terms. We will provide at least 14 days notice of material changes via in-app notification. The updated Terms will be posted at halfanonion.app/terms with a new effective date. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
You may delete your account at any time using the Delete Everything function in Settings or by submitting a request at halfanonion.app/contact. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms. Upon termination, your right to use the app ends immediately. Local data on your device persists until you uninstall the app or clear app data.
